Principals Address to Parents Council

Welcome

On behalf of the Board of management and the staff of CBS The Green welcome to our Website .

This is a most exciting time for me personally, having recently been appointed as Acting Principal of CBS The Green. I also would like to welcome our new Acting Deputy Principal Ms Ann O’Callaghan. She has the honour of being the first lady to be appointed to a senior management position in the Green. We both are honoured and privileged to have been appointed to our new roles, and look forward to working closely with the staff, the students and you the parents in the best interest of the school.

We thank you for choosing The Green for your child. We welcome you to our school family which comprises of the teachers, pupils and parent(s)/guardian(s). Our hope is that while your child is with us that he will develop into a mature, happy, responsible young adult who is prepared to face the future with confidence.
Here in The Green we acknowledge that parent(s)/guardian(s) are the primary educators of the child .Our staff work in co-operation with the student and the home to help each individual pupil to reach his potential.
As a school, we strongly encourage the involvement of parents in the school community. The relationship between parents and teachers is one of mutual support, concern and respect because just like each parent our teachers want the very best for our students.

Success

One of our core beliefs about academic success is that hard work, determination and consistent effort are key elements in achieving success. All of the above is only possible within a firm but fair code of discipline.

Respect for school and education will greatly enhance the prospect of success for your child. If you as a parent show little respect for school rules you cannot expect your son to behave differently. It is important for you to instil a sense of pride in the school in your son.We ask you to1. Be familiar with the various policies and codes of the school.2. Show support for the teachers in their implementation of the school’s behaviour policy.3. Ensure that your child has a positive attitude and abides by the school rules.4. Promote respect for the teachers.5. Praise and encourage his work  in school6. Check your son’s journal regularly and ensure that he does his homework.7. Ensure the punctuality and regular attendance of your child. 8. Ensure that he comes to school in full uniform.9. On returning to school after a period of absence, provide a written explanation in your son’s journal.10. Be available to discuss a problem.

Investment

A large investment is  being made in the school this year to enhance The Green as a place of excellence in teaching and learning as well as maintaining its great reputation in sports and extra curricular activities. The introduction of interactive projectors and ICT facilities has turned each classroom into an e-learning centre to meet the educational needs of students in the 21st century. In addition work has commenced on our new extension. The works undertaken at this time include the refurbishment of the existing 1927 and 1970 building.  Along, with a Mechanical and Electrical upgrade in the 1992 building. There will be  3 new  general classrooms, in addition to  specialist rooms (Design & Communication graphics, Architectural & Materials Technology, Music and Drama, Maths, Language, Social Studies & Religion).
I would like to thank all the parents for their continued support of the efforts of the school to provide a good all-round education for the students and in particular those parents who serve the school so well in a voluntary capacity on the Parents Council, the Board of Management and at our various fund-raising and social events.
