Complementing Academic Education

Sports Programme

Benefits of Sports

Research shows that participation in youth sports helps children improve the physical, social, emotional and academic aspects of their lives.

In addition, the experiences of youth sports influences their behaviour as adults. Youth sports helps to promote physical fitness and counter the rising tide of childhood obesity and other health problems.

Physical Education is offered to students of all ages within the school. Students develop the values of teamwork, individual achievement and sportsmanship through taking part in sports in the school. Students are encouraged to develop a healthy balanced lifestyle that prepares them for their lives ahead.

Achieving the Highest Level in Sport

The Green has produced some of the finest sports people to represent their county, province and country over the years.

Past students have represented their County at Minor and Senior Level in Gaelic Football and Hurling. The School has educated and is home to many All Ireland medal holders and is proud of this tradition. Past students have also represented their clubs in Basketball to National Cup Success. They have also represented their country in rugby at underage level and many have secured places on Provincial Squads. Finally, students also boast national and international medals in Athletics.

“On the football field, our school has excelled and given us many memorable days in the past and will do so in the future, as we continue our rich and proud footballing tradition and heritage.”
